Florida Tech Receives $60,000 for Ocean Engineering Fellowships

– The Link Foundation of Binghamton, N.Y. has provided $60,000 for fellowships and fellowship administration in Florida Tech’s Department of Marine and
Environmental Systems (DMES).

The gifts mark the sixth consecutive year that the foundation has provided funding to the university for Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation program
fellows. Dr. George A. Maul, professor of oceanography and DMES head, administers the Link Fellowship program.

Recipients of the Link Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation Pre-doctoral Fellowships have gone on to graduate from America’s premier institutions,
including Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Oregon State University, Dalhousie University, Stevens Institute of Technology,
University of California and Florida Institute of Technology.

The Link Foundation was established in 1953 by Edwin and Marion Clayton Link. The foundation makes grants to qualified nonprofit organizations interested
in the mastery of the air and sea, and the development of energy resources and their conservation, and in simulation and training. The fellowship program
is designed to support graduate education in ocean engineering.

The Department of Marine and Environmental Systems integrates the expertise and skills of scientists, engineers, and resource managers. The faculty
includes individuals devoted to research involving the study of ocean waves and currents; coastal processes and structures; estuarine hydrology; planktonic
and benthonic organisms; meteorology and climatology; hydroacoustics; coastal and resource management; marine vehicles; biofouling; trace-metal and
pollution identification and distribution; computer modeling; remote sensing; and instrumentation.
