Florida Tech Joins in Hungarian Project under NSF Grant

– Florida Tech professor of chemistry, Virender Sharma, has earned a grant of over $43,000 from the National Science Foundation. The grant will fund a
project intended to advance scientific understanding to solve organics-related water pollution problems in Hungary.

The researchers include scientists and students at Loran University in Budapest, Florida Tech chemistry professor Mary Sohn, and a Florida Tech doctoral
student. The team will investigate reactions of chemical compounds to advance understanding in inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and environmental
chemistry.

The Florida-Hungary Environmental Studies Faculty Exchange program, between Florida Tech and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, is
beginning its third year. The program, funded by the U.S. Department of State, has sponsored well over a dozen faculty exchanges so far.

The program is funded by a grant from the U.S. Dept. of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
