Florida Tech Selected as an Apple iTunes U Institution

MELBOURNE, Fla. — With Stanford University established as the flagship, Apple Computer is choosing universities nationwide to be become “iTunes U”
institutions. With this designation, an iTunes U may broadcast digital audio and video directly to users’ iPods or other MP3 players.
Florida Tech has become one of the select universities awarded participation. As such, the university will be provided by Apple with licensing, a
distribution mechanism and a storage system.

Beginning this fall, Florida Tech will start rolling out content that is deliverable to the mobile iPod user. The university will offer a public site,
designed for alumni, prospective students, and friends of Florida Tech, which will include general information, faculty and guest lectures, learning
materials, music, sports and more. A private, access-restricted site will deliver course-based material and advising content. Florida Tech students will be
able to review notes for a calculus test, for example, accessing distance learning through their Pocket PCs.

“We’ll offer a highly mobile way to provide learning for the millennium generation,” said Dr. Wade Shaw, professor of engineering systems and member of the
committee who helped to bring Apple iTunes to Florida Tech. “As an iTunes U, we’ll also be able to reach parents, alumni, the community — the whole
world.”
