Musicians Band Together For Fall Performances Nov. 17, 19

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Department of Humanities and Communication will present two upcoming free performances, the Florida Tech jazz combo on Nov. 17 and a string, wind and choir showcase, “Sonic Mysteries,” on Nov. 19.

The first concert, directed by Dean Winston Scott on trumpet, features Florida Tech’s Jazz Syndicate, a jazz combo for advanced improvisation. Musicians will explore a variety of jazz styles and repertories, including original compositions. The members of the combo are: Dean Winston Scott (trumpet), Paul Decker (trombone), Mike Pannicia (drums/vibes), Sebastian Valdivia (drums/vibes), Casey Gardner (guitar), David Jarkey (Piano), Dr. Matt Wood (Bass guitar).

In the second concert, the repertory will suggest sonic representations of timelessness and the immortal aspects of the human spirit. In it, the Florida Tech concert choir, and string and wind ensembles will share their talents.

The Nov. 17 performance will be in the Denius Student Center’s Hartley Room on campus at 5 p.m. The Nov. 19 performance will be in the Gleason Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. For more information, call Jamie Younkin, music director, at (321) 674- 7320, or e-mail jyounkin@fit.edu.
