The Scott Center for Autism Treatment Running Club Starts Nov. 27, Sign-up Is Oct. 1-Nov. 1

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Scott Center for Autism Treatment of Florida Institute of Technology will start its running club’s second season Nov. 27. Florida Tech’s Becky Werle will train club participants in preparation for the Melbourne Music Marathon Weekend, Feb. 2-3, 2013. Registrations for the training begin Oct. 1. A good opportunity for the Florida Tech community to sign up will be at the Health and Wellness Expo, Oct. 4, Clemente Center, on campus.

The goal of the club is to promote running in the community and to set and reach personal goals while raising awareness about autism. The event will also benefit the center.

The training, which costs $85, is designed for the 5k, 8k or half-marathon relay and geared for beginners. Participants will train biweekly for 10 weeks (Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings). A running club packet, which includes a T-shirt for training sessions and the race, training calendar based on individual racing levels and a water bottle, will be available for pickup Nov. 15, from 5-6:30 p.m., in the lobby of The Scott Center for Autism Treatment.

Marathoners will run a very scenic route, including two bridge crossings for the half-marathon and the beach side barrier island, which ends on Main Street in Downtown Melbourne. The race is followed by an awards ceremony and a party with a live band.

The 10-week training registration form and waiver can be found at www.thescottcenter.org/running-club.php; the race registration is available at www.themelbournemarathon.com.
