Renee Foosaner Education Center Offers Abstract Acrylic Workshop Feb. 16-17

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology’s Renee Foosaner Education Center will present Painting Workshop: Linear Abstractions with Reed Dixon in conjunction with the exhibition I Am Nature: Paintings by Leslie Wayne, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, Dixon will demonstrate to students his unique process of making acrylic paintings by applying layers of tape, layering acrylic paint on top of the tape, and rearranging the tape to create an abstract painting. On Sunday, Feb. 17, students will make linear abstractions using those same techniques.

Dixon is a full-time artist at Studio Luna, in Lititz, Pa. With an extensive background in fine art and graphic design, he is well known for his non-traditional style, use of color, unusual subject matter choice and sense of humor.

In 1975, Dixon co-founded the nationally known Mt. Gretna Outdoor Art Show and served as its chairman while it developed into a major summer event. In 1977, he started Dixon Graphics, an advertising design and fine arts studio. Dixon’s paintings are currently on display in several locations, including the Lancaster Arts Hotel and Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania.
