Raku Workshop with John Kellum at Foosaner Education Center Set for Sept. 21 and 22

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Renee Foosaner Education Center of the Foosaner Art Museum, Florida Institute of Technology, will host a 2-day “Raku Workshop with John Kellum” Sep. 21 and 22 from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. The workshop will cover preparation, glaze application and firing techniques. Each participant will have the opportunity to fire 2 – 3 copper mat pots of their own.

John Kellum is a nationally known and award-winning clay artist. “First and foremost, I am a potter. I love sitting at my potter’s wheel and creating. The immediacy of the process and the contrast of a delicate pot being put through a severe firing environment is what has drawn me to Raku,” he said.

Students are required to bring their own bisque fired piece, but pieces will also be available for purchase as well at the Education Center for $10.

The cost for “Raku Workshop with John Kellum” is $150 for non-members and $135 for members. Lunch will be provided on both days. Registration and details are available on the Web site, www.foosanerartmuseum.org under “Workshops.” You many also call (321 )674-8923 or email Sara Petrosky, Curator of Education, at spetrosky@fit.edu.
