Montana Skies Come to Florida at Foosaner Art Museum

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Foosaner Art Museum of Florida Institute of Technology, presents the exhibition, Theodore Waddell: Far West, on view Oct. 19 through Jan. 19, 2014. Montana artist Theodore Waddell will present a visual lecture on his work on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Harris Community Auditorium located adjacent to the museum; the program is free with admission.

Waddell has pursued his passion for art for over five decades. With careers as a professor of art and rancher, his current work is a reflection of the influences of these two professions. His abstract impressionistic rendering of real subject matter reflects the American experience of living in the West and his love of the land. He captures the spirit and intensity of the modern West by stacking elements and permeating the space with seasonal light, which affects nature’s colors, forms and animal life; a process that allows Waddell to explore beyond traditional artistic boundaries.

Waddell’s career took off in 1983 when he was invited to exhibit his work in the prestigious Corcoran Biennial 38th Survey of American Art. In 2004 he was honored at the White House for his collection of paintings in various U.S. Embassies. His works are found in private and corporate collections throughout the world.

The exhibition is guest-curated by Waddell’s daughter, Shanna Shelby. She has contributed to two of her father’s exhibition catalogues among many others. She is the curator for a large, private fine art collection in Denver, Colo., and is the cultural programs coordinator for the city of Denver. Shelby has curated several exhibitions in the United States, England and Canada.

Shelby will also give an overview of the paintings in the gallery at the Nov. 23 “Gallery Talk with Shanna Shelby” at 2 p.m. For more information about the Waddell exhibition nd Shelby’s gallery talk, visit www.foosanerartmuseum.org or call (321) 674-8916.
