U.S. News & World Report: Florida Tech Online Business Programs for Vets Among Nation’s Best

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology has one of the nation’s Top 40 online graduate business programs for veterans, according to rankings released this week by U.S. News & World Report.

The university’s online graduate business program for veterans ranked No. 36 in the country.

“Veterans and active-duty service members face unique challenges as students, from transitioning between bases and grappling with deployment to balancing work and family life upon return,” said Robert Morse, director of data research for U.S. News. “The Best Online Programs for Veterans are high-quality programs that also offer educational benefits and flexibility for veterans pursuing a degree.”

This latest ranking spotlights two outstanding and previously high-ranked facets of the Florida Tech experience: its education for veterans and its online offerings.

Florida Tech is No. 39 out of 234 ranked schools in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges for Veterans” rankings, released late last year. And the school is No. 48 among 283 programs ranked in the 2014 “Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs,” where programs were assessed on various factors, including affordability, faculty credentials, student services and reputation.

“The combination of outstanding academic offerings from our renowned faculty and our use of cutting-edge technology embodies Florida Tech’s credo, ‘High tech with a human touch,’” said FIT President and CEO Anthony J. Catanese.

He added, “Veterans are an amazing national resource, and we appreciate the recognition this ranking brings to the time and innovation we invest in developing programs that empower these men and women to achieve their education.”

To be ranked in online programs for veterans, an online degree program had to report participation in four key programs that offer educational benefits to people with military service. The rankings methodology requires programs to belong to institutions that are certified for the GI Bill; they must also belong to schools participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program or public institutions that charge in-state tuition for all out-of-state veterans. The Best Online Programs for Veterans are also affiliated with schools that are members of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium and offer at least once course in the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support catalog.

Finally, all schools evaluated in this ranking must have been awarded a numerical rank in the overall 2014 U.S. News “Best Online Programs” rankings.
