Tamburr to Launch New Album with Concert at Gleason

Florida Tech’s Artist in Residence, Members of His Quintet to Play at 7 p.m. Aug. 26

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Christian Tamburr and members of the Christian Tamburr Quintet will perform songs from their latest album, “Voyage,” in a concert starting at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at Gleason Performing Arts Center on the campus of Florida Institute of Technology.

General admission tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for Florida Tech faculty and staff, and $5 for seniors 55 and older and children 12 and younger. Tickets are available for purchase at http://cpla.fit.edu/sac/music/ or by calling (321) 674-8082. A limited number of free tickets are available for Florida Tech students.

An internationally known vibraphonist and pianist, Tamburr was named Florida Tech’s Music Artist in Residence in January. The appointment reflects Florida Tech President and CEO Anthony J. Catanese’s efforts to continue strengthening the university’s role as a cultural and artistic leader in Brevard County and beyond.

In addition to performing, Tamburr’s residency has included teaching master classes and workshops with music students at Florida Tech and conducting local outreach at public schools throughout Brevard County. Residency sponsors are Jean T. Burgdorff, Barbara K. Keller and Cliff and Sarah Bragdon.

Tamburr and his quintet recorded “Voyage” in July at the new performance studio at Florida Tech’s radio station, 89.5 FM WFIT. It is his fifth album under his own name.

Beyond Florida Tech, Tamburr tours internationally and for the past year has held the musical directorship at Vegas Nocturne in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. Later this year, he will travel to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar as an ambassador and featured performer for New York City-based Jazz at Lincoln Center.
