Florida Tech Seeking Vendors, Performers for International Fest Feb. 28

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Performers and vendors who represent our diverse global community both on the campus of Florida Institute of Technology and beyond are encouraged to apply to participate in the university’s Ninth Annual International Festival set for Feb. 28, 2015.

Held from noon to 5 p.m. on Panther Plaza, the festival offers food and drink, unique merchandise, live entertainment and information-filled display booths representing nations and cultures from around the world.

Participants last year included student associations from Africa, Latin America, Taiwan, India, Iraq, Korea, the Caribbean and Kuwait, as well as groups such as Shik Shak Belly Dancers, L’Ahavat Tzion Folk Dancers, the Indian musician Ketki Nanivadeka and Mariposa Monarca.

For the 2015 event, organizers are looking for:

• Cultural performers
• Cultural displays
• Cultural Food vendors
• Cultural retail goods vendors

Special consideration will be given to vendors selling cultural/ folkloric wares, and to not-for-profit service organizations. Only handmade and homemade crafts may be offered for sale at the event.

The application deadline is Dec. 12 for cultural entertainers and displays/booths, and Jan. 14, 2015, for food and retail vendors.

Also needed are high school students willing to volunteer from one to 10 hours.

In addition to the live events, ethnic cuisine from area restaurants will be available for purchase.

Children’s activities, including face painting, a bounce house, balloon folders and carnival games, will be offered, as will a popular feature from last year’s event: the Passport to the World program, where children are instructed to visit five cultural displays to get their passports stamped. Once they return with five stamps, they are eligible for a prize.

Sponsors of the Ninth Annual International Festival are Florida Tech Residence Life; Florida Tech Campus Activities Board; Melbourne Regional Chamber of East Central Florida; WFIT; and the Residence Hall Association.
