Florida Tech’s Scott Center Starts Running Club Nov. 29

MELBOURNE, FLA. — It’s time to lace up your sneakers and hit the road as Florida Institute of Technology’s Scott Center for Autism Treatment kicks off the fourth season of its Running Club.

Starting Nov. 29 and lasting through Feb. 1, 2015, Florida Tech trainer Becky Werle will train club participants in preparation for upcoming 5K, 8K and half-marathon races across the Space Coast.

“Our goal is to promote running in the community, reach personal goals – and do it all for a great cause,” said Colleen Middlebrooks, director of community relations for the Scott Center.

The fun begins Nov. 30 with a team-building activity, as club members will work a water table at the Space Coast Marathon to raise money for the Scott Center. Training will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Scott Center, located on the Melbourne campus of Florida Tech.

Last year’s Running Club included over 30 members.

The fee is $85 for first-time participants in the nine-week course, which will convene two group sessions per week. The fee is $70 for returning members. All proceeds go to the Scott Center.

In addition to the bi-weekly training, generally held Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, club members will receive:

  • advice on proper running and stretching form
  • a training calendar
  • a running shirt
  • the opportunity to run for a friend, family member or Scott Center family
