International Festival Brings the World to Florida Tech
MELBOURNE, FLA. — Travel the world without ever leaving the Florida Institute of Technology campus when the Ninth Annual International Festival comes to Panther Plaza from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 28.
Through performances, foods and interactions, festival attendees will experience the rich cultural variety that enlivens the university and the broader Space Coast community.
There will be performances by Florida Tech groups, including the FIT Street Dancers Club and the Latin American, Omani, Caribbean and African student associations, among others. Many of those associations, as well as others including the Chinese, Brazilian and Muslim student associations, will also offer cultural displays.
Food vendors will include Old School Pizza, Greek American Association of Brevard, Hazel’s Caribbean Restaurant, La Estancia De Luisa Colombian restaurant, Taco City and Portuguese Corner Store.
The festival will feature groups from beyond Florida Tech, as well.
Folkloric Dance Group, Halau Hula O’-Space Coast Hula School, L’Ahavat Tzion, Brevard County Indonesian Group and Fore Sacre West African Drum & Dance Company will perform. These groups and others, such as Space Coast Vikings/Sons of Norway and Hearts out to Haiti, will offer displays.
In addition to these cultural offerings, there will be children’s activities, including face painting, a bounce house, balloon folders and carnival games. And a popular feature from last year’s event will return: the Passport to the World program, where children are instructed to visit five cultural displays to get their passports stamped. Once they return with five stamps, they are eligible for a prize.
