Florida Tech’s Holbrook Picks Up First Consolation Win

At Rocky Mountain Nationals, Larsen Motorsports’ Moller Wins Again

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology driver Shea Holbrook won the consolation race at the IHRA Nitro Jam Rocky Mountain Nationals Presented by Good Vibrations on July 19, earning the former open-wheel racer her first victory for Larsen Motorports’ jet dragster team.

Holbrook hit 263 mph in her run against Marisha Falk.

“Shea has really found her groove in the seat of the FIT jet dragster,” said team co-founder and 2014 IHRA Nitro Jam champion Elaine Larsen. “Her reaction times are really making the other girls nervous!”

The event, at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was eventually won by Larsen Motorsports driver Kat Moller, who reached 270 mph in her finals victory over Larsen. This was Moller’s second overall win of the season.

Elaine Larsen remains the overall points leader.

“It was great to be back to Edmonton,” Larsen said. “The fans were amazing and the IHRA did an exceptional job getting the track to come around after the rain. It made for some very close racing.”

It was the altitude, not the precipitation, that made it challenging for Larsen Motorsports’ crew chiefs, noted team CEO Chris Larsen. “The crew chiefs all had a great handle on their cars in this thin air,” he said.

With Friday’s races rained out, the team visited several local sites, including North America’s largest mall, the West Edmonton Mall, where they went ice skating.

Next up on the schedule for the Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series is the Northern Nationals presented by Aeromotive at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, on Aug. 7-8.
