Indian River Lagoon Research Institute Holds Technical Conference Sept. 25-26

All Events Open to Public; Registration Required

MELBOURNE, FLA. —Florida Institute of Technology’s Indian River Lagoon Research Institute (IRLRI) will convene its first annual Technical Conference on Solutions to Emergent Water Quality Issues Sept. 25-26 at the university’s Center for Aeronautics and Innovation, 1050 W. NASA Blvd. in Melbourne.

The conference, which is open to the public but requires registration, will focus on adapting and applying science to guide management decisions and develop solutions aimed at improving coastal water quality.

On Friday, scientists and engineers from around the state will lead 15-minute discussions on projects in which science was used to develop and implement solutions to water quality problems. The day’s events will culminate with an evening poster reception.

Saturday will feature a lagoon boat tour, sponsored by Good Natured River Tours, which will highlight several approaches to coastal interface solutions. There will be an open house later and a fundraising dinner.

Here’s a look at the schedule for the two-day conference:

Friday, Sept. 25

8 a.m. Welcome and Opening Remarks

2-5 p.m. Speakers and Presentations

Saturday, Sept. 26

10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Shoreline Excursion – An Indian River Lagoon Boat Tour, sponsored by Good Natured River Tours, will show firsthand several of the coastal interface solutions used throughout the IRL. Van departs from CAI for marina at 10 a.m.
2- 4 p.m. Open House – Local scientists, engineers and organizations host tables and share information about their research.

6 – 9 p.m. An Estuary Affair II – Evening dinner.
