Renee Foosaner Education Center Offers Workshop, Lectures, Art Sale

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology’s Renee Foosaner Education Center is offering a workshop, lectures and art sale in November and December.

Everything is Sacred: Stories of Everyday, taught by Florida artist Marg Kuhl and her daughter, South Carolina-based artist Lin Kuhl Jay, is a workshop for adults that will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. The workshop is in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition, The Visionary Works of the Reverend Howard Finster.

Participants will engage in a collaborative mural, attend a lecture by David Leonardis, and complete an additional individual mixed-media project. All projects will emphasize the combining of images with text. The workshop is appropriate for people with little to no experience and up.

Tuition for Everything is Sacred: Stories of Everyday includes light snacks, the lecture and most materials. The cost is $135 for Foosaner Art Museum members and $155 for non-members.

Current Frits Van Eeden Gallery acrylic artist Susan Martin will give a gallery talk at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. She will discuss the inspiration and process behind her hyper-realistic, vibrant, botanical-themed acrylic paintings, which are on view through Dec. 23. This event is free and open to the public and held in conjunction with the ArtWorks Fine Arts Festival Nov. 21-22 in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne.

Get an early start on your holiday shopping at the Renee Foosaner Education Center’s annual holiday pottery sale from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4. Work for sale will include small, hand-built sculpture, as well as functional pottery such as teapots, cups, mugs, plates, vases and bowls. Prices will range from $5 to $100. All work is made by current Renee Foosaner Education Center ceramic students or faculty. Cash or credit cards will be accepted.

The Renee Foosaner Art Museum is located at 1463 Highland Ave. in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, except Thursdays, when it remains opens until 7 p.m.; Sunday hours are 1-5 p.m. General admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children, seniors and students with ID; admission is free on Thursdays and always free for Florida Tech faculty, staff and students with ID.
