Florida Tech’s Day of Giving Counts Down to Dec. 1

Making a Difference Around the World

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology will roll out its inaugural Day of Giving with a university wide movement to celebrate the spirit of giving and involve alumni from around the world.

Florida Tech’s Day of Giving will happen on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in conjunction with the international effort known as Giving Tuesday. Introduced in the United States in 2012, Giving Tuesday, which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is a day of philanthropy benefiting non-profit organizations. It has involved 30,000 partners in 68 countries.

The Day of Giving website at http://dayofgiving.fit.edu/ will count down to the kick-off and, on Dec. 1, keep a real-time tally with a live leaderboard. Links to social media will also be available. The goal will be to secure participation by obtaining gifts of all sizes from as many Florida Tech alumni as possible during this 24-hour time period.

Spearheaded by the deans of each of Florida Tech’s five colleges, participants will be able to help their favorite area of the university win prize money as they compete in university-wide challenges. In addition to the colleges, the university’s Athletics Department, Botanical Garden, museums, Evans Library, weVENTURE, Continuing Education office and radio station are participating.

“The goal of the day is to encourage participation from as many alumni and friends as possible,” said Florida Tech President and CEO Anthony Catanese. “We are all ambassadors for Florida Tech, and our shared success ensures a bright future for our university.”

The importance of participation goes beyond any particular amount of money raised. No matter the size of individual donations, the level of alumni participation overall is a key factor in how organizations, including the influential ranking publication U.S. News and World Report, perceive the success of an institute and how they ultimately rank it.

“All alumni can play a role; no gift is too small,” noted Bino Campanini, vice president for alumni relations and executive director of the Florida Tech Alumni Association. “So join me and let’s show just how proud we are of our alma mater.”
