Glass Fusing Workshop March 3-5 at Renee Foosaner Education Center

MELBOURNE, FLA. — A three-day glass fusing workshop led by one of the craft’s preeminent practitioners will be held March 3-5 at Florida Institute of Technology’s Renee Foosaner Education Center in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne.

Illuminated Landscapes II will be taught by Fahan Sky McDonagh. Sessions run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Enrolled students will observe, analyze and photograph the landscape: light and shadow, edges, color gradients, etc., drawing inspiration from artists such as Gerhart Richter, Sol Lewitt and Barnett Newman. Students will then distill their photographs into a linear landscape.

The final 5-inch-by-11-inch project will be comprised of many thin strips of sheet glass, assembled, dammed, fully fused, cold finished and mirrored on the backside. The designs can be oriented horizontal or vertical to recall the feeling of the experience.

McDonagh received her master’s degree in fine art in glass from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2013. She earned her bachelor’s degree in painting from the University of Central Florida. She has attended residencies and symposiums at North Lands Creative Glass in Scotland and Pilchuck Glass School in Washington. “Satori,” her MFA thesis exhibition, was recently selected for publication in the Corning Museum of Glass’ New Glass Review 35 Juried International Glass Publication.

Cost of enrollment is $300 for museum members and $350 for non-members. All project materials will be provided, though participants are asked to bring a notebook and pen.
