French Film Festival Offers Movies Thursdays, Saturdays in April

All Part of ‘April in Paris’ Fete
MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Fourth Annual French Film Festival at and around Florida Institute of Technology’s Foosaner Art Museum kicks off Friday, April 1, with a free, outdoor presentation of Jean Cocteau’s 1930 classic avant-garde film, Le Sang d’un Poète (The Blood of a Poet).
The film begins at 8:30 p.m. at Eau Gallie Square on the corner of Highland Avenue and westbound Eau Gallie Boulevard. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
April 1 will also feature April in Paris, the festival’s outdoor celebration of French culture and cuisine. Starting at 5:30 p.m., guests may enjoy live music, petanque, art activities for children and adults, French vendors, and a one-night pop-up streetside cafe featuring French fare and libations.
Participating food vendors are The Crepe Company, Continental Flambé, Cafe Rouge Express, Sol-Tree and Cosmic Café. Hot and cold entrees, desserts, coffees, and pastries will be available through these food providers.
Beer will be provided by Intracoastal Brewing Company, with wine provided by the Eau Gallie Arts District.
The film festival continues through April 16 with two screenings per week in the art museum’s Harris Community Auditorium. Admission to these films is $5 per ticket. Tickets will be sold at the door. Concessions including beer and wine will be available.
A Festival Pass ($15 for Foosaner Art Museum members, $20 for non-members) will also be available this year and will include entry to all film screenings and complimentary popcorn. Thursday, April 7, 7 p.m.: L’Avare (The Miser), 1980. Directors: Louis de Funès, Jean Girault. Post-film discussion led by Anne Smith, humanities instructor at Florida Tech.
Saturday, April 9, 2 p.m.: Le Salaire de la Peur (The Wages of Fear), 1953. Director: Henri-Georges Clouzot. Post-film discussion by John Christopher Frongillo, assistant professor of humanities at Florida Tech.
Thursday, April 14, 7 p.m.: L’écume des Jours (Mood Indigo), 2013. Director: Michel Gondry. Post-film discussion led by Anne Smith, humanities instructor at Florida Tech.
Saturday, April 16, 2 p.m.: Le Mystère Picasso (The Mystery of Picasso), 1956. Director: Henri-Georges Clouzot. Post-film discussion by Carla Funk, director of university museums at Florida Tech.
