Florida Tech’s French Film Fest Underway at Harris Community Auditorium
Two Weeks of Cinema Treats
and ‘April in Paris’ Fete
MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Fifth Annual French Film Festival at and around Florida Institute of Technology’s Foosaner Art Museum kicks off Friday, April 7, with a free, outdoor presentation of the Oscar-winning short film Le Balloon Rouge (The Red Balloon).
Albert Lamorisse’s 1956 classic, a nearly dialogue-free film showing a young boy’s adventures after he finds and befriends a bright red balloon, begins at 8:30 p.m. at Eau Gallie Square on the corner of Highland Avenue and westbound Eau Gallie Boulevard. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
April 7 will also feature April in Paris, the festival’s outdoor celebration of French culture and cuisine. Starting at 5:30 p.m., guests may enjoy live music, petanque, French vendors and art activities. Beer will be provided by Intracoastal Brewing Company, and wine will be provided by the Eau Gallie Arts District.
Shopping opportunities will include Eau Gallie Florist, Jacqueline’s Bakery and Café, Le Crepe and Bem Bom. Children’s art activities will be offered by the Renee Foosaner Education Center.
The film festival continues through April 22 with two screenings per week in the art museum’s Harris Community Auditorium. Admission to these films is $5 per ticket. Tickets will be sold at the door. Concessions, including beer, wine and popcorn, will be available.
A Festival Pass ($15 for Foosaner Art Museum members, $20 for non-members) is available and will include entry to all film screenings and complimentary popcorn. Passes are available by advance purchase at www.foosanerartmuseum.org or by calling the Renee Foosaner Education Center at 321-674-8923.

Tuesday, April 11, 2 p.m.: L’Armee des Ombres (Army of Shadows), 1969. Director: Jean-Pierre Melville. Post-film discussion led by John Christopher Frongillo, assistant professor of humanities at Florida Tech.
Thursday, April 13, 7 p.m.: Adieu au Langage (Goodbye to Language), 2014. Director: Jean-Luc Godard. Post-film discussion by Frongillo.
Thursday, April 20, 7 p.m.: Pierrot le Fou (Pierrot Goes Wild), 1965. Director: Jean-Luc Godard. Post-film discussion led by Anne Smith, humanities instructor at Florida Tech.
Saturday, April 22, 2 p.m.: Camille Claudel 1915, 2013. Director: Bruno Dumont. Post-film discussion by Smith.
