Tony Robbin Retrospective Opening Jan. 13 at Foosaner Art Museum

MELBOURNE, FLA. — An exhibition from a founding member of the Pattern and Decoration Movement with works depicting four-dimensional objects and spatial configurations opens Saturday, Jan. 13, at Florida Institute of Technology’s Foosaner Art Museum.
Tony Robbin: A Retrospective will feature 24 large-scale paintings and works on paper, spanning over 30 years of the New York-based artist’s career.
The exhibition, which will remain on display through March 17, will also include a gallery displaying Robbin’s influences, from works of his contemporaries to ethnic textiles.
For the last 35 years, Robbin’s paintings and sculptures of four-dimensional objects and spatial configurations have been included in over 100 exhibits in 12 countries.
“The Foosaner is thrilled to present this exhibition, which showcases a beautiful blending of art and mathematics,” said Executive Director and Chief Curator of University Museums Carla Funk.
Robbin has authored three books based on scientific research in the fields of geometry, mathematics, and physics: Fourfield: Computers, Art and the 4th Dimension, Engineering a New Architecture, and Shadows of Reality: The Fourth Dimension in Relativity, Cubism, and Modern Thought.
Lecture
Robbin will offer “Space Braids,” a free illustrated lecture, at 2 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the museum’s Harris Auditorium. In his presentation, he will give a mathematical deconstruction of a work from 2006 and place it in personal and cultural contexts.
