Jesse Colin Young to Play Florida Tech Concert Feb. 24

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Musician Jesse Colin Young, a founding member of the 1960s folk-rock band The Youngbloods, will perform at Florida Institute of Technology’s Gleason Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.

Young is best known for his songs “CC Rider,” “Darkness Darkness,” “Song for Juli,” and one of the most iconic songs of that turbulent era, “Get Together.”

“Guests will be treated to his unique fusion of jazz, blues, folk and rock with an emphasis on his extraordinary voice that makes his signature sound,” said Terri Wright, general manager of presenting sponsor WFIT 89.5 FM.

The concert’s primary sponsor is Smile Design & Wellness Center.

Young will be accompanied by a seven-piece band: Virginia Garcia Alves and Sally Stemper on backup vocals, Donnie Hogue on drums, Aleif Hamdan on electric guitar, Jack Sheehan on saxophone, Tristan Young on bass, and JennHwan Wong on keyboard/piano.

From his folk days in Boston and his first record, “Soul Of a City Boy,” he has continually articulated and recorded the tumultuous times, from the 60s, 70s and 80s to the present, while reminding us of the importance of family, community and the precious natural world we live in.
