Florida Tech is Going Back to the NCAA Football Playoffs

Panthers to North Carolina for First-Round
Battle with No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne on Nov. 17

MELBOURNE, Fla.  For the second time in program history, the Florida Tech football team has earned a berth into the NCAA Division II Playoffs. The No. 6 seed Panthers (8-3) will face No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne (10-1) in Hickory, North Carolina, for the first-round clash on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Florida Tech was ranked sixth in the Super Region 2 Poll prior to Saturday’s 55-7 victory over Shorter, and remained in that spot after defeating the Hawks.

“We’re very excited,” said head coach Steve Englehart. “Heading into (Sunday), we had a good feeling that Lenoir-Rhyne is where we would be heading. They are a great football team and very well coached. They’re hard-nosed and tough, it will be a heck of a challenge for us.”

In Florida Tech’s first appearance in the playoffs, the Panthers hosted North Greenville in the first round at Panther Stadium on Nov. 19, 2016. NGU eliminated the Panthers on that day, 27-13.

The top seed in the region is Valdosta State (11-0). In other Super Region 2 matchups, No. 2 West Georgia will battle No. 7 Wingate, and No. 4 Bowie State will face No. 5 West Alabama.
