Florida Tech Professor Joins Microsoft Advisory Board

– Dr. James Whittaker, Florida Tech Professor of Software Engineering, was named a member of Microsoft Corp.’s Trustworthy Computing Academic Advisory
Board. The newly formed board, which has gathered some of the world’s leading privacy research scientists, met for the first time in late February at
Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Wash.

The board was formed to advise the company on security, privacy and reliability enhancements in Microsoft products and technologies. The company is seeking
critical feedback on product and policy issues related to its Trustworthy Computing initiative. “By formalizing the process of engaging with these
distinguished experts, we are better able to benefit from their collective wisdom,” said Scott Charney, Microsoft chief security strategist.

Whittaker is among 19 scientists and privacy policy experts. Among the institutions they represent are: University of Milan, Italy; Indiana University
School of Law; University of London; Cornell University; Macquarie University, Australia; Purdue University; and Carnegie Mellon University.

Whittaker has been a Florida Tech faculty member since 1996. He earned a doctoral degree in computer science from the University of Tennessee.
