Cook Leads Florida Tech’s Dept. of Science and Math Education

– David E. Cook has been named head of Florida Tech’s Dept. of Science and Mathematics Education. New to the university this fall, he is also a professor
in the department.

Most recently, Cook was dean of graduate studies and associate vice president for technology at St. Bonaventure University in New York.

He began his career on the chemistry faculty at Northeastern State in Oklahoma. After completing doctoral studies as a National Science Foundation science
faculty fellow, he conducted post-doctoral research in the Institute for Enzyme Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Cook earned a doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and a bachelor’s degree from
Southwest Texas State University. All his degrees are in chemistry.

Florida Tech offers master’s and doctoral degrees in science education and mathematics education. Both doctorates in philosophy and doctorates in education
are available.

The Department of Science and Mathematics Education offers several teaching and research assistantships each year. Teaching assistants participate in
laboratory instruction or in the preparation of teaching materials. Research assistants work on projects that are often related to their own master’s
thesis or doctoral dissertation investigations.
