Shaikh Heads New Florida Tech Engineering Department

– Florida Tech has established the Engineering Systems Department in the College
of Engineering
to meet the system integration education demands of systems engineers. Two degree programs are available through the new department: the
master of science degree in engineering management (MSEM) and, new last spring, the master of science degree in systems engineering (MSSE).

Dr. Muzaffar Shaikh, professor of systems engineering, will lead the new department. From 1993 to 1997, he was associate dean of the School of Management.

The MSEM program prepares the engineering or science graduate in such key areas as quality engineering, project engineering, team dynamics and product
development. The MSSE program prepares the engineering or science graduate in such key subjects as modeling and analysis, systems engineering principles,
computer networks, digital communications, decision and risk analysis, human-machine interface and operations research.

Shaikh earned a doctoral degree in mechanical and industrial engineering from the University of Illinois, a master’s degree in industrial engineering from
Kansas State University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Bombay.
