Florida Tech Presents Lecture on Model Homeland Communities

– As part of its Humanities Lecture Series, Florida Tech presents “Homeland Communities: Model Designs for the National Interest.” The presentation is Oct.
2 at 7 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building Auditorium (130LS) on University Blvd. It is open to the general public at no cost.

The lecturer, Dr. Bruce Stephenson, is professor of environmental studies and director of growth management studies at Rollins College in Orlando. He
describes homeland communities as “energy-efficient, interconnected neighborhoods providing residents pedestrian access to civic institutions and
transportation alternatives.”

Dr. Stephenson is the author of the book, Visions of Eden: Environmentalism, Urban Planning, and City Building in St. Petersburg, Florida, 1990-1995. He
lectures regularly in Florida, has appeared on several local PBS specials and has delivered guest lectures at Cornell University and the University of
Miami School of Architecture.

Dr. Stephenson holds a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Ohio State University, and a doctoral degree from Emory University.
