Series Explores Movies from Psychological Perspective

– Filmgoers who savor a post-mortem on a just-seen movie, may enjoy analyzing with a professional in Florida Tech’s new film/lecture series, Psycho-Cinema:
Psychology and the Movies. The series’ first presentation, on Nov. 13, will be Home for the Holidays.

The 1995 film featuring Holly Hunter, Anne Bancroft, Robert Downey Jr. and Charles Durning, will be screened at 7 p.m. in the Melbourne university’s F.W.
Olin Life Sciences Bldg. first-floor auditorium. Admission is free.

Florida Tech School of Psychology faculty members Dr. Thomas Peake and Dr. James Oelschlager will be on hand to lead a discussion of this film’s comic
depiction of a fractious family gathering for Thanksgiving. Long-standing grudges, disappointment and secrets come to light during the holiday visit.

Peake originated the film series, which evolved out of his long-standing love of the movies, the humanity they reveal and the lessons they teach. His book,
Cinema and Life Stages: Healing Lives and Training Therapies , is due to be published in spring 2004 by Praeger Publishers in Westport, Conn. The F.W. Olin
Life Sciences Building is located on University Blvd. near Country Club Rd. Another film and commentary will be offered through the series during the
