Athletics Unveils New Panther Logo

Panther facelift coincides with rollout of the new and improved FloridaTechSports.com

MELBOURNE, Fla. – As Florida Tech kicks off a brand new season of athletics, the University is introducing a fresh Panther logo to usher in the new year. The logo, featuring a fierce Panther face, was unveiled Thursday at halftime of the women’s soccer game.

Florida Tech Athletics has been moving forward in several new areas recently, first with the announcement that the University would be starting a football program in 2013, then with the addition of five more sports over the next two years, including men’s and women’s track and field, men’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.

Now, in tandem with the re-launch of the department’s new and improved website—FloridaTechSports.com—Florida Tech unveils its brand new Panther logo as part of the overall athletics identity program. Another aspect of the athletic identity already in use exclusively by the athletic department is the “FT,” representative of Florida Tech.

“Your mascot is how people think of you and how they associate with your teams,” said Florida Tech President Anthony J. Catanese. “We decided that Pete needed a facelift and now is the perfect time as we usher in a new era of Florida Tech Athletics.”

Tech’s teams have gone through several transitions over the 46-year history of the athletic program, first known as the Engineers in the early days and very briefly as the Falcons. The Panther was finally adopted as Florida Tech’s mascot in 1983 and it stuck, though various versions of the Panther emerged over the past 27 years.

“I am excited about the new Panther logo and how it lends itself to the many uses there are for promoting Florida Tech’s athletic teams,” said athletic director Bill Jurgens.

The Panthers open a new chapter with the soccer, volleyball and cross country teams all competing this week.
