Florida Tech Student Earns Award for Paper on Flight Safety

  Florida Institute of Technology student Renee Morgan was recognized recently with a second place award by the Society of Experimental Test Pilots (SETP) for her academic flight safety research paper, “NowGen Bigger NextGen Better.” Morgan’s paper was submitted in SETP’s First Annual Flight Safety Intercollegiate Competition held last year.

The award is in recognition of Morgan’s dedication to flight safety excellence and her development of aerospace human systems integration technologies.

Morgan, a Freeport, N.Y., native, is a senior in aviation meteorology and computational mathematics in the College of Aeronautics and will graduate this May. She is advised by Tom Utley, College of Aeronautics associate professor.

The SETP was founded in 1955 by six civilian test pilots. The society’s vision is to “to be the recognized world leader in promoting safety, communication and education in the design and flight test of aerospace vehicles and their related systems and to maintain a viable professional and prestigious international society for all test pilots and aerospace corporations.” As of 2009, SETP has grown to more than 2,400 members from about 30 nations around the world.
