U.S. News Names Florida Tech among Best Places to Avoid Winter

If one item on a prospective college freshman’s checklist is no more driving in snow and ice, then Florida Tech can fill the bill. The university was named this January by U.S. News & World Report as one of “5 Great College Towns to Avoid Winter.” The news organization has already designated Florida Tech a Tier One Best National University.

The university’s place on this sunny list is alongside University of Miami; Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi; University of Hawaii, Honolulu; and Pepperdine University, Malibu, Calif.

The story reads in part, “It’s no surprise that one of the country’s top surf colleges is also situated in a desirable location for students who want to avoid winter. . . With temperatures rarely falling below 70 degrees year-round and a student body with a passion for surfing and skateboarding, the school has adopted ‘a bit of a board culture,’ ” said Florida Tech Marketing Director Andy McIlwraith, quoted in the story.
