For Three-year-olds to Sixth-Graders: Summer Art Camp at Foosaner Art Museum 2012

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The summer programs for young artists at the Foosaner Art Museum, Florida Institute of Technology, emphasize learning through hands-on activities and by directly observing art. The eight themed camps, which begin June 4 and continue through July 27, are taught by professional art instructors and are inspired by the museum’s current exhibitions and permanent collection.

The program will introduce students to the fundamental concepts of art and to ideas and practices behind modern art. Instructors will create activities based on art in the museum’s galleries, which they will relate to the Summer Art Camp 2012 themes. Activities include traditional art making and mixed media exploration. This year’s exhibitions include Florida Artists from the Permanent Collection and Cuban Daydreams: Dionel Delgado; introducing children to paintings, sculptures and works on paper.

Each week art campers accompanied by their instructors will take a field trip to the galleries, directly across the street, and then create their own art work in the Renee Foosaner Education Center studios. The last day of each camp ends with an art party reception hosted by museum volunteers. Campers will display their artwork and celebrate their creative accomplishments with friends and family.

Campers can choose a half-day program or an all-day program with themed camp in the morning and two media-specific art classes in the afternoon. Campers are grouped according to age: three to five years of age; first and second graders; third and fourth graders; and fifth and sixth graders.

The cost for a one-week, all-day camp is $195 for non-members and $180 for museum members. A half-day morning or afternoon medium-specific camp is $135 for non-members and $120 for members.
