Department of Computer Sciences Alice Software Competition Continues through April 6
MELBOURNE, FLA.—To encourage interest in computer science and software design problem solving, Florida Institute of Technology is holding an Alice animation competition for high school students; middle school students are also welcome. Supported in part by Google, the results of the competition will be announced on April 6.
Alice is a software tool for creating three-dimensional animations using several real and imaginary characters, objects and scenes. Student teams will create animations to compete for Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography as well as two task-oriented categories. Juniors and seniors will be in the upper division and 10th graders and below will be in the lower division. Awards will be given to winners in each category and in both divisions. The award ceremony on Saturday, April 6, is open to the public and will be from 9 to 11 a.m., in the F.W. Olin Engineering Complex, Room EC118, on campus. Some of the best animations will be shown.
