Scott Center to Host June Camp for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Scott Center for Autism Treatment, Florida Institute of Technology, in partnership with the University of Central Florida Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UCF CARD) and Brevard Providing Autism Links and Supports (PALS), presents Camp2Can. This summer program is for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ages 5 to 22 years. The one-week camp will be held on the Florida Tech campus with a choice of three weeks: June 3-7, June 10-14 and June 17-21, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The camp was developed by the UCF CARD to provide appropriate summer programs that allow Brevard County children with ASD to interact safely and productively. Funding for the camp is partially subsidized through Brevard PALS, a non-profit group dedicated to supporting families dealing with autism in the county.
Camp2Can will provide campers with natural environments to help build friendships, learn and use social skills, explore nature, and make arts and crafts. Activities include outdoor games and general play activities; music and movement; swimming; going to the movies; shopping; and weekly field trips to locations of interest. Small groups of children and youths will be supervised by adults who are experienced in working with individuals with ASD.
