Countdown to Kickoff Sept. 7

MELBOURNE, Fla.—Game One Day is almost here. Florida Tech’s football team will soon exit the tunnel of Pirate Stadium at Palm Bay High School to square off with Stetson University in the Panthers’ inaugural game.

The Panthers with begin the historic journey as the newest NCAA Division II football program as a Gulf South Conference football-only member and college football will arrive in Brevard County and on the Space Coast.

“This just marks another day closer to the start of something that we have worked so hard for the last two years,” head coach Steve Englehart said. “Our players, coaches and staff are waiting with great anticipation for Sept. 7.”

No doubt Panther fans are waiting with the same anticipation as the three-year wait for an official college game has whittled down to almost no wait at all.

The Panthers open the season at Pirate Stadium against Stetson, who will be playing its second game since 1956. The game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Two weeks later, after a road contest against Newberry on Sept. 14, FIT will host West Alabama to open its Gulf South Conference slate in a nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network. The game is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m.

Florida Tech will play six games at Pirate Stadium over the course of the season. Five road contests will be intertwined in the 11-game schedule.
