Florida Independent College Fund Awards $2,400 UPS Scholarship to Florida Tech Senior
MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology senior Joshua Dube earned a $2,400 UPS Scholarship provided through the Florida Independent College Fund (FICF). The FICF is a statewide association for private colleges and universities that is affiliated with the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC). The UPS Scholarships are funded by the CIC-UPS Educational Endowment Fund, which is held and administered by CIC.
Originally from Roosevelt, N.Y., Dube graduated secondary school in 2011 from Harrison College, a co-educational grammar school in Bridgetown, Barbados. He began attending Florida Tech in Fall 2011 and is working towards his bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering. Dube, with a current GPA of 3.77, was admitted to the Florida Tech FastTrack program, an accelerated master’s program allowing highly motivated undergraduates to finish a master’s degree in less time than in a traditional program. His career plan is to become a flight test engineer with a specialization in propulsion.
“The steep cost of education and pursuing one’s dreams can be the limiting factor in persons accomplishing their life long goals; however, scholarships like these help to take some of the load off which will allow me to focus that much better on doing well in school,” said Dube. “This scholarship is something that I am sincerely proud to achieve and very grateful for.”
The Florida Tech Financial Aid, Enrollment Management office nominated Dube based on his academic achievement and financial need.
“I am delighted to see an outstanding student like Joshua win this year’s award,” said Jay Lally, Florida Tech financial aid director. “We used an extensive search of our database to recommend Joshua for the award. Congratulations to him and thank you to UPS for generously supporting our students for more than a decade.”
This year, CIC awarded nearly $1.5 million in scholarships from its UPS Educational Endowment Fund to private institutions of higher learning across the nation, including a grant of $74,400 to the FICF.
