Teens to Explore Florida Tech and Careers at LASER Day Nov. 20

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology’s 22nd Annual LASER (Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering Resource) Day will be held on campus Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 2:15 to 8:15 p.m. The free event is designed for 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school students and community college students and their parents, guardians, teachers and guidance counselors. A collaboration of the Florida Tech College of Science, College of Engineering and College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, the event is hosted by Dr. Michael Grace, associate dean of the College of Science. LASER Day is an opportunity for students to visit a top tier, research-intensive doctoral university, explore many of the exciting Florida Tech research programs and get a glimpse into college life. Students will have an opportunity to visit with professors, tour laboratories and witness active demonstrations. Students may choose to attend up to three topical discussions in consecutive, activity-filled sessions. Why Are Cells So Sensitive? LASER Day check-in begins at 2:15 p.m. with introductory remarks in the Gleason Performing Arts Center on campus. A special session just for parents, Financial Aid and Undergraduate Admission 101, will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Dinner (optional) and concluding remarks, starting at 6:20 p.m. will take place in the Denius Student Center’s Hartley Room. Students who visit the campus that day and who apply and ultimately enroll full-time will receive a $1,000 Campus Visit Grant that will be applied to their first-year financial aid package; it is renewable for up to four years.
