Florida Tech Free Public Lecture Explores Future of Online Learning Jan. 16

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Nelson Baker, Ph.D., dean of Professional Education at Georgia Tech, will present “Online Learning in Higher Education—A Changing Landscape” Jan. 16, 2-3:30 p.m. at Florida Institute of Technology. The free public presentation will be in the Denius Student Center’s Hartley Room. No reservations are necessary.

Baker will explore the future of online education including the current focus on the use of technology for improved learning, which derives from several old and new perspectives. His talk will probe how online education might be in the forefront of new kinds of higher education endeavors and will look at requisite business models and quality.

Baker is also a faculty member in the Georgia Tech School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He leads that university’s efforts to provide individual educational opportunities to industry and government organizations worldwide. A nationally recognized leader in educational technologies designed for and applied to engineering, Baker has won numerous awards in this area. With more than half a million MOOC enrollments, he helps to lead Georgia Tech’s strategy for online initiatives. Current president of the International Association of Continuing Engineering Education, a board member of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association, past chair of the Georgia Board of Regents Administrative Committee on Public Service and Continuing Education, Baker has a global perspective on online education.
