Introduction to Pte de Verre Workshop at Foosaner Education Center Set for Feb. 19-21

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Renee Foosaner Education Center of the Foosaner Art Museum, Florida Institute of Technology, will host a three-day “Introduction to Pâte de Verre” workshop, Wednesday-Friday, Feb. 19-21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open to beginning, intermediate and advanced students, the workshop will explore Pâte de Verre kiln-forming techniques, taught by glass artist Fahan Sky McDonagh.

A French term, Pâte de Verre directly translates to “paste of glass.” The process includes creating a model, making a mold, placing thin layers of powdered or frit glass with in the mold and then firing the piece in a kiln. In this workshop, students will create three small solid glass pieces, including a bas relief sculptural tile, a small vessel and/or a pin or pendant-size jewelry. There are no prerequisites, but a genuine interest in glass process and a background working with clay or sculpture is helpful.

Fahan Sky McDonagh received an MFA in glass from the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York in 2013. She received a bachelor’s degree in painting from the University of Central Florida and has attended residencies and symposia at North Lands Creative Glass in Scotland and Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. “Satori,” her MFA thesis exhibition, was recently selected for publication in the Corning Museum of Glass’ New Glass Review 35, Juried International Glass Publication.

The cost of tuition is $350 for non-members and $325 for museum members. This workshop is 50 percent off for full-time Florida Tech faculty and staff and $50 for full-time Florida Tech students. The Foosaner Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children and students with ID and free on Thursdays and always for Florida Tech faculty, staff and students with their ID.
