Ruth Funk Center Presents Global Wedding Textile Specialist March 11

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology will host Regents Professor Emerita Joanne Eicher of the Department of Design, Housing and Apparel at the University of Minnesota in the next Friends of Textiles Lecture Series March 11 at 6 p.m. The lecture, to be held in the Denius Student Center’s Hartley Room on campus, is “What Did the Bride Wear?” It will be preceded by a reception at 5:15 p.m.

The career of Eicher, a specialist in global costume, has included field research in Nigeria and a sabbatical year at the University of Oxford. She has presented papers and been invited to lecture in Nigeria, China, Korea, India and Australia as well as the United States, United Kingdom and Europe. Eicher has authored numerous books including Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion (Editor-in-Chief, 2010) and The Visible Self: Global Perspectives on Dress (2008), Culture and Society and Mother, Daughter, Sister, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood (2005).

This lecture is presented in conjunction with the center’s current exhibit, Tying the Knot: Global Wedding Costume and Ritual, which will be on view at the Ruth Funk Center through April 26.
