Ruth Funk Textile Center Presents Fabric Postcards Workshop Aug. 9

MELBOURNE, FLA. – The Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts at Florida Institute of Technology offers “Fabric Postcards,” its final summer 2014 workshop, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in the center’s second-floor mezzanine.

In “Fabric Postcards,” participants will join presenter Carol Poole for three hours of fun: transforming fabric scraps, card foundations, crayons, threads and markers into post-office-acceptable, one-of-a-kind post cards.

Provided kits will include materials necessary to make up to five postcards. Participants may bring a sewing machine (in good working order with a fresh needle), a variety of threads in preferred colors, and basic sewing supplies, including scissors for fabric and paper, snips, rotary cutter and small mat, and the necessary sewing machine feet for decorative stitching.

All skill levels are welcome.

The workshop is $25 for the general public and $20 for Friends of Textiles members. Please RSVP by Aug. 1 to textiles@fit.edu or by calling (321) 674-6129.

The workshop is presented in conjunction with the center’s current quilt exhibits, Florida in Fabric II and Oil Stains: A Series by Eleanor McCain, which remain on view through Aug. 23. Regular hours for the Ruth Funk Center are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and noon-4 p.m. Saturday. The center is next to Evans Library on the Florida Tech campus in Melbourne, 150 W. University Blvd. Admission is free. For more information, visit http://textiles.fit.edu or call (321) 674-8313.
