Ethics Conference to Focus on Ethical Leadership vs. Compliance

Sept. 19 Event Features Speakers from DynCorp, NASA, FBI

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology’s Center for Ethics and Leadership at the Nathan Bisk College of Business will present “Ethical Leadership vs. Compliance: Why it Matters,” the fall 2014 edition of the school’s Ethics & Leadership Conference series.

The event, free with registration and open to the public, will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Melbourne. Registered attendees will be provided continental breakfast, snack and a plated lunch.

The center’s primary sponsor for this conference is DynCorp International, with ongoing support from Harris Corp. and Community Credit Union.

“The aim of this conference is to raise awareness about the value and importance of being purposeful in creating a culture of ethics from the top down,” said Abram Walton, director of the Center for Ethics and Leadership and an associate professor of technology management and innovation in the Nathan Bisk College of Business.

Keynote speakers include Joe Kale, chief compliance officer at DynCorp, and Darrell Coleman, DynCorp’s vice president of trade compliance. They and others will discuss the importance of creating a “speak up” culture and how to avoid making the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Participants will also hear about international trade and compliance law from a member of the President’s Export Council, which is the primary national advisory committee on international trade. And a panel of industry leaders, including representatives of the FBI and NASA, will share real-world ethical dilemmas and take questions from the audience.
