Guest Artist Kerr Grabowksi to Speak At Friends of Textiles Lecture Nov. 18

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology’s Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts will host guest artist Kerr Grabowski in the next Friends of Textiles Lecture Series event on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The event will begin with a reception at 5:15 p.m. at the center, which is next to Evans Library on the Florida Tech campus in Melbourne. At 6 p.m., Grabowski will present a gallery tour of her work. The talk is presented in conjunction with the center’s current exhibit, Embellished: A Celebration of Wearable Art, on view through Dec. 13.

Kerr Grabowski’s history as a fiber artist has been marked by her constant experimentation with innovative approaches to dyeing and screening processes. She developed Deconstructed Screen Printing, a monoprinting technique allowing for a freer, more painterly approach to screen printing.

Formerly Artist in Residence at Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton, N.J., Kerr now maintains a studio in Bay Saint Louis, Miss. A past recipient of a Mississippi Arts Commission Fellowship and New Jersey Council on the Arts Fellowship, Kerr is published in Ornament, Surface Design Journal, Fiber Arts Design Book Six, Silk Painting for Fashion and Fine Art and Textiles Now.

Admission to the lecture is $10. It is free to Friends of Textiles members, Florida Tech faculty, staff and full-time students.

Regular hours for the Ruth Funk Center are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The center is next to Evans Library on the Florida Tech campus, 150 W.
