Florida Tech’s Arrasmith Writes Book on Electro-Optical, Infrared Systems Engineering

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology professor William W. Arrasmith has written a new book, “Systems Engineering and Analysis of Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems.”

In the book, Arrasmith, who teaches in the Department of Engineering Systems in the university’s College of Engineering, describes how to apply modern-day systems engineering principles, methods, tools and techniques to develop and analyze complex optical systems.

An applications-oriented running case study with a fictitious optical systems development company – Fantastic Imaging Technologies, or FIT – is used to integrate the systems engineering and optical systems content and illustrate how high-level systems engineering principles and methods are used to drive the development of modern day optical systems.

“Arrasmith weaves together the essential elements of systems engineering with a focus on the technical performance of optical systems to provide a comprehensive study of these disciplines,” notes Wade H. Shaw, dean and Kaolin Professor of Engineering at Mercer College. “It is a pleasure to see a highly technical engineering field such as optics linked so well with systems engineering principles and the role of an enterprise architecture. Each topic benefits from the presentation of its counterpart as the design lifecycle is applied and illustrated.”

The book, published by Taylor and Francis (CRC Press), is available at amazon.com and other major online and traditional retailers.
