Florida Tech TEDx Programs Coming in October, December

TEDxFloridaTech Salon Event to Take Place Oct. 27

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology’s newly created TEDx program will offer a TEDxSalon at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the university’s Center for Aeronautics and Innovation in Melbourne, 1050 W. NASA Blvd. in Melbourne.

The free, public event, TEDxFloridaTech Salon: Spark, is a smaller, more intimate opportunity to share ideas based on sparking new ideas and technology, and how citizens can come together and improve Brevard County. The two-hour event will begin with an introduction explaining what TED is, followed by the screening of a TED Talk, then discussion. Another video will then be presented, followed by additional discussion.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Later this year, on Dec. 16, the university will hold TEDxFloridaTech TEDx: Innovate. Running from 2-5 p.m., this independently organized TED event will feature speakers, TED Talks and discussion.

It will be held in the Hartley Room at the Denius Student Center on campus. There is no charge to attend. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Registration is required to attend both events.

In keeping with Florida Tech’s “high-tech with a human touch” credo, the university’s Office of External Relations and Economic Development and its Office of Continuing Education have partnered to organize and grow TEDxFloridaTech.

The TEDx program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals spark conversation and connection through local, independently organized TED experiences. Faculty, staff and students intrigued by TED events, or those interested in presenting, volunteering or attending, will be encouraged to participate.

The first TEDxFloridaTech event, TEDxFloridaTechWomen, was streamed from the bi-annual TEDWomen event. Held May 29 at Harris Community Auditorium, it drew a maximum capacity crowd.
