Matt and Kim Headline Florida Tech’s Homecoming Fest Nov. 6 in Melbourne

Indie Pop Duo Known for Frenetic Live Shows

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Downtown Melbourne will be rollicking on Friday, Nov. 6, as the indie sensations Matt and Kim bring the catchy beats, pure energy and over-the-top fun of their live performances to Florida Institute of Technology’s 2015 Homecoming Fest.

The free outdoor concert event, from the Florida Tech Alumni Association and Mainstreet Partners, runs from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. It will feature street vendors and food and drink in addition to the infectious tunes from the Brooklyn-based duo.

Matt Johnson (vocals/keyboards) and Kim Schifino (drums) met while attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and quickly became known for their thunder-punching, melodic mix of indie and dance music.

In those early days, Spin magazine noted, “there truly is no sound these two won’t use to support their almost religious commitment to spreading huge grins,” while Pitchfork described their quality as “melody so happily jerky and rhythms so dangerously spastic that you can practically hear paroxysmal crowds pogo-ing madly…Johnson sings, and thousands of other kids in his zip code (and others like it around the country) feel like he’s describing their Saturday nights.”

The duo’s quirky videos soared in popularity: “Daylight,” from their second album, 2009’s Grand, has nearly 16 million views on YouTube, and more recent hits like 2012’s “It’s Alright from Lightning, have drawn nearly 4 million views.

Matt and Kim have toured around the world and performed at many music festivals, including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Coachella, Firefly and Summerfest.

Their latest full-length album, New Glow, was released April 7.
