Florida Tech Jazz Syndicate Performs March 4 for Jazz Friday

Group Led by Winston Scott at Harris Auditorium

MELBOURNE, FLA. —The Florida Tech Jazz Syndicate, led by trumpeter Winston Scott and with guest performer Jamie Younkin, will perform from 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 4 in the Harris Community Auditorium at Foosaner Art Museum for the museum’s Jazz Friday concert.

Jazz Fridays are held in conjunction with the Eau Gallie Arts District’s First Friday Art Walk.

Joining Scott, a shuttle astronaut and retired Navy captain, and Younkin, who will also play trumpet, is James Throne on saxophone, Brian Finnell on drums, Roque ‘Rocky’ Santiago on bass, and Connor Mahoney on piano.

Admission to the Jazz Friday concert is free, and galleries at the museum and the nearby Renee Foosaner Education Center will be open until 7:30 p.m. The museum’s current exhibit is Caminos Transitados/Paths Taken: A Retrospective of Francisco Gordillo Arredondo Baba Oñi. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

The education center will host a special event Friday, as well. “First Friday Raku” will offer an artistic experience that is fast, furious and exciting for anyone who has bisque-fired pots suitable for this technique. Participants will glaze and then participate in the firing of their pieces. Space is limited.

Cost is $65 per person for Foosaner members and $75 for non-members, or $40 for Foosaner members who are also Florida Tech students and $50 for non-member students. The fees allows each participant to fire three to four moderately sized pieces (no larger than 6” diameter and 12” tall) and includes glazes, instruction and firing.
