Florida Tech Will Be Dancing in March

Panthers Receive Bid to NCAA South Region Tournament, Face Benedict in First Round

MELBOURNE, FLA. – Florida Tech has had quite a ride in 2015-16, going from a non-contender to finishing with a 20-9 overall record and a runner up finish in the Sunshine State Conference Championship, and it’s not over yet.

Late Sunday night, on the NCAA Selection Show, it was announced that the Panthers had received a bid to the 2016 NCAA South Region Tournament. This is FIT’s first trip to the “Big Dance” since the 2011-12 season.

This year’s South Region is hosted by top seeded Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.

Florida Tech is slotted as the seventh seed in the South Region and will face No. 2 Benedict in the quarterfinal round on Friday, March 11, at 3:30 p.m. ET. The match-up between No. 3 Delta State sixth-seeded Nova Southeastern precedes the Panthers contest at 1 p.m. ET.

On the other side of the region, No. 1 seed Union welcomes eighth-seeded Tampa in the 6 p.m. ET game. Despite losing to Florida Tech in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament, Florida Southern remained in the fourth seed and squares off with No. 5 Kentucky State in the final first round game at 8:30 p.m.
