Florida Tech Driver Elaine Larsen
Races Former Late Night Host

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Palm Bay-based Larsen Motorsports and Florida Institute of Technology jet dragster driver Elaine Larsen were featured on the July 13 episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, the television show from the former Tonight Show host and well-known automobile enthusiast.

The episode featuring Larsen Motorsports air on CNBC.

During a February visit to Larsen Motorsports’ facilities in Florida Tech’s Research and Development Center in Palm Bay, Leno and his crew talked with company founders Elaine and Chris Larsen and filmed workers, including several interns enrolled at Florida Tech, performing their jobs. That included welding and composites shaping.

Also during his visit, Leno and Elaine Larsen raced at Orlando Speed World Dragway.

“It was an honor to be a part of the show,” Larsen said. “Racing Jay was fun, but showing him our shop and introducing him to the students was an amazing opportunity.”

Jay Leno’s Garage is Leno’s first prime-time show since he stepped away from the host’s desk in February 2014. The series covers all things automotive, from classic cars and restoration projects to road tests and investments.

Leno travels the country to find “the car world’s most radical rides and highlight the passion and the stories behind them,” according to the network.
