IRL Research Institute Holds Water Quality Conference Sept. 30-Oct. 1

All Events Open to Public;
Registration Required

MELBOURNE, FLA. —With a focus on how to use science to tackle the largest ecological challenges in the region, the Indian River Lagoon Research Institute at Florida Institute of Technology will convene its second annual Technical Conference on Coastal Water Quality Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in the Denius Student Center’s Hartley Room on campus.

The conference is open to the public, but registration is required.

Friday will open at 8:30 a.m. with an introduction by U.S. Congressman Bill Posey. Holly Greening from the Tampa Bay Estuary Program and Anthony Janicki, president of Janicki Environmental, will offer a keynote presentation. Then, scientists and engineers from around the state will discuss projects in which they have used science to develop and implement solutions to water quality problems. There will also be presentations on other priorities, including muck removal and control, nutrient removal, and international coastal degradation. Friday’s events will culminate with an evening poster reception, which concludes at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday starts at 8:30 a.m. with a four-hour boat tour of the Indian River Lagoon. Sponsored by Good Natured River Tours, the event will allow participants to see several of the coastal interface solutions used throughout the lagoon.

Additionally, the 2nd annual An Estuary Affair dinner will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday in the Hartley Room.

Conference registration is $40 per person and includes all conference sessions, coffee breaks, lunch, drinks during the evening poster session Friday and one ticket to the dinner Saturday. Registration for students is $15 and includes everything except the dinner.

The boat tour is $25.

A ticket to the dinner Saturday is $25 and includes cocktails.
